Doubtful Sound, one of the many fiords carved by glaciers centuries ago, creating long, high sided channels. So named because - apparently - Captain Cook doubted he would be able to sail round it like an island. He was right, it is a huge long incredibly imposing fiord.

These naming conventions are very interesting - I mean, 'Doubtful Sound' doesn't sound possible, or even that they'd keep it as a name, but they did and we have it now as a way of remembering times gone by.
