Yesterday was a long lay of travelling from Lake Tekapo to Queenstown. The flexipass I bought in Christchurch allows me to travel for so many hours, and this was quite a chunk of it. But an excellent way to spend a day, on an air conditioned bus, driving through spectacular scenery - the southern alps - with frequent stops and a running commentary by the driver who explains all sorts of interesting facts about the places we pass through.
We stopped for an hour at Mount Cook Village, which is largely just a huge glass and marble hotel/cafe/shop with a spectacular view of the mountain.
You can go for walks, take a helicopter ride, or just sit and sip coffee as I did.
My New Zealand knitting is growing. I'm up to the sleeve shaping if you're interested.
At Te Anau now in the Fiordland Cinema where I have just bought a ticket for this evenings showing of Les Miserables. Hanky at the ready!
