For Martha

Here is a post for my dear daughter Martha. Life in Northumberland continues to unfold as the weather improves and the garden responds. This Bank Holiday Weekend has been a mixture of gardening, sewing and seeing friends. The gardening is more 'slash and burn' hawthorn management. I remember being taught about 'slash and burn' in the Amazon (35 years ago) and thinking how dramatic it sounded. It is very dramatic and I think the hawthorn is winning.

The sewing  is making use of the bright colours in the quilt I am half way through. I have used some of it for some hand stitching. Martha, have you any idea what these squares will be  made into?
Think about it. On Saturday, I walked into the woods with my camping chair and Poppy, a bag full of sewing, needle and thread and had a blissful two hours in the sun.

Pops enjoyed it too!

Here is Thea not wanting her picture taken. When you are three you think you can close your eyes and the picture won't work.

Sorry Thea - it did.

So Martha, we had fun, ate well - Caroline came too, watched some good TV - that episode of Spooks was amazing, had a laugh, bought a scented rose called 'The Rambling Rector' and generally had a good time.

Photos of the patchwork as it evolves.

Hey mother-
I did not check your blog for a long long time and now look what you did! Nice post, sounds like nice bank holidaying. We went to the park and climbed to the tops of trees to do the guardian crossword and made courgette and feta fritters which were v good. Have got a job (after a very hilarious group interview in which we had to suggest the most appropriate product for each ficticious customer with me being the only fluent english speaker in the group) at the posh sainsburys near fresh and wild (where people buy taste the difference bread with 5 nuts and seeds and purple sprouting broccoli that looks old. 2 days, or evenings rather, a week. the money will be pouring in for syria- we booked the flights yesterday and because of the timings have to go directly to damascus- no fun trains across continents- they were £300. Am going on august the 2nd until 23rd sept.
Did owen get his revision email from me and david? we thought a lord of the rings theme might make him more excited about physics..
love you lots and lots- martha xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
