OK thats enough about fridges
I can't believe the mix up I caused with that fridge post. No - we haven't got a new fridge, no we aren't getting a new fridge, yes the old one works perfectly, but if all my wishes came true I would have a pink fridge. But I'm not really that bothered, I just need to keep my cheese cool.
End of fridge chat! (nip over and see Islaygirls fridge - it's lovely!)
Today it is beautiful, sunny, frosty, cold and still. Just back from a walk in the woods with Poppy who chased a deer and several rabbits. She never catches them. I'm not sure what she would do if ever she did. Try to round them up I suppose as she is sheepdog through and through.
The treehouse looks wonderful in this light. I'd like to show you round. It doubles as our spare room, so if ever you are in the neighbourhood.....
Geoff made the treehouse when the kids were small. He used second hand wood, old windows from here and there and a mixture of bits and pieces. It was their den where friends could play and sleep overnight. We even had a pulley with a bucket to transport food from the house. But as they grew up it deteriorated until it was a bit of a cold smelly mess.
A few years ago, we had a student from Prague staying for the summer and Michal upgraded it to it's present sate. So now it is insulated and re-roofed and even has a proper bridge over the ditch!
We painted it and made curtains and shelves and the platform that can be a sofa or a bed.
all the shelf brackets and curtain holders are bent old spoons
no electricity but lots of candle power
the roof lights have sliding curtains made from old wool blanket that i dyed. This pattern reminds me of beach huts
Like I said .... if you are ever passing by and need somewhere to stay.....

Wow! Your treehouse is amazing. I'd love to see it in person. I'm particularly taken with the bent spoons. I think treehouses are terribly romantic (in a rustic kind of way). What lucky guests you have.

What a super job Michal made of refurbishing the old treehouse. I've slept in that and it was brilliant!
Pity there's no electric in it though. You could have put your old fridge in it.

I don't think you should have said that, I'm packing a bag right now. Seriously, this is a wonderful tree house, I want to move in!
My kids have (had) a tree house under our willow, the door to the room is a bit low now but we still climb the stairs and sit on the roof / veranda.

What an amazing treehouse and spare room. I'd be visiting you all the time if I could sleep there.

I showed Matt, he wants to come and stay. But then I told him how cold it is and we decided not til next summer.. xx

there are ways of keeping it warm Martha - when all 37 night lights are lit it can even get too warm!

What a fab treehouse. It's very lovely with such a cosy and restful interior. I think I'd have it as a little work room - climb up the ladder, pull it up behind me and soak up the peace, quiet and that fabulous view. There's something so appealing about little spaces, as you say beach huts fall into the same category.

What a beautiful treehouse, my 8 year old daughter would probably move straight in and leave her pretty bedroom lol

Oh Katie it's lovely can I book in for a week and sit in there and knit or sew.

but won't the pink fridge fall through the floor?
just kidding.
the shelf brackets are brilliant. there's a store here called Anthropologie (check out the website) that would sell them for $100 a pair.
and are those prayer flags along the roofline?

thank you for all your positive comment - i somehow knew you lot would like the treehouse. and I really do mean it when I say it is our spare room - shall I start taking bookings for 2007 now? Martha is right - it does get a tad cold at this time of year!
I would be very happy to manufacture the spoon brackets for that sort of price - off to check that link right now!

and yes - they are prayer flags - I love them!

What a magic cottage! I want to come live there, and you are welcome to my home to Katie! :-)
Thanks for your lovely comment. I adore the idea of the spoons, and how hight the house is built - way cool!

I want to live there.
All alone!

There is a problem with all these bookings. You clearly know, because you have been invited that all are welcome though I do consider myself to be in a slightly favoured position and I do sleep in there at every opportunity. Just so's you know.

Hi, I came across this post via Lucy Locket. What a brilliant use for old spoons.
Also, I have a question. I was wondering how the treehouse is insulated, as I've got a summer house that I want to insulate, but I'm not sure how to do it.
