Happy Christmas
With all three 'children' back home for Chirstmas, I would appear to have fourth call on the computer. The odd free muinutes never co-incide with the energy to write a post, until now!
Christmas day was wonderful here, the weather was frosty and crisply cold.
and a walk in the woods was a delight. Poppy loves the woods, as I have mentioned before. We are lucky to have such a great place so near our home. On Christmas day we 'liberated' the boat from the boat house and had a magical row round the Secret Lake
Poppy couldn't decide whether she wanted to be in the boat or ....
......out of the boat. She finally settled for 'out' which made for a less rocky row!
A sneak look at the copies of 'Carp Talk' made this little venture even more memorable.
Also, you are never too old for a swing.
We had the stockings and the presents and the big dinner and they were all lovely, but this walk is the memory I'll keep of Christmas 2006.
Here is the start of another walk.
This is the annual 'Long Walk/Short Walk and Soup' Event. I think this is the fifth year. I make three huge vats of soup and Geoff takes the intrepid for a long walk while the wimps come with me for a potter round the woods. Us short walkers then watch a film in the warm sitting room waiting for the freezing hungry Long Walkers to return for the soup. Last year the chestnut soup won the popularity contest, this year it was the butternut squash and red pepper. A very good recipe where you roast the squash and peppers and a whole bulb of garlic then liquidise the lot with some vegetable stock. Vey nice.
Here is a link to the most amazing bit of Christmas Crafting I have seen in a long while. Stunning eh?
And now it is nearly time to tell the joke you can only tell once a year
'I met a man today with as many noses as there are days in the year!' ... tomorrow.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!

wow it looks cold there! We're in the beginning of summer here and I really miss winter, the warm days of reading in front of the fireplace and the cosiness of it all. Enjoy it there and btw Happy New Year!

katie, thanks so much for the Wee One commiseration, and the translation on Quality Street. Is it a bit like Cadbury Milk Tray? We can't get that here and three boxes of it are always my last purchase in duty-free at Heathrow on the way home.
And is long walk/short walk all family members? Good Lord.
Poppy is gorgeous by the way. She looks very clever.

what a wonderful christmas - I love the idea of rowing on a lake and walking in frozen, frosty woods topped off with steaming hot soup. I'd like to think of myself as a long walker but in truth I think I'd have plumped for the short walk option followed by film watching whilst breathing delicious warm soup aromas. Happy New Year to you and your family.

I saw the simmply knitting feature and you you could have knocked me down with a feather! and the lake belongs to my neighbour who would have turnd a bit of a blind eye i think - I hope!
and thanks for your lovely thoughtful comments - I would love to have you all come to our walk - long or short - we could make the short walk a 'walk and knit' event!
Much joy to you all in 2007
