Have you ever seen a Birthday Cake like This One?

Lee made this for Anne's birthday. It is was a 'Friends and Lovers' cake. The slices had to be Big to avoid collapse, this is the gap left by one piece.

then the sumptuous light sponge and heavenly mix of fruit and cream was shared with your loved one. I think there should be a law that insists that all cakes should be eaten like this.
Thanks for a nice birthday tea party Anne - with pass the parcel - so obviously NOT fixed and margaritas ... do you really need a link to Wikipedia for that?

I spent the morning with some left over bits of quilt and my copy of the Crafter's Companion and made this for Anne's Birthday

Instead of machine sewing the sections for the needles as instructed, I quilted all the layers together with embroidery silk

I'm pleased with the way it turned out - it is Tania's contribution to the book, which made it even nicer to make! Great instructions!

And today, Martha is coming home, there is cake to make and the treehouse to get ready!

Is it possible to fall in love with food? If so, I think I have with that cake - it looks like the perfect cake to me!

Also the quilted roll is gorgeous - lucky Anne.

Oh my, that cake looks so good, and as for your little volunteer job in oxfam (your note on my weblog) well, I would LOVE to do that, childrens books are my passion. Working in a bookshop gets expensive!

The fabric roll is beautiful as is that cake!

Oh Katie that cake looks delicious. I have just been making needle rolls too but not as wonderful as that one.

Wow, what a cake! And the needle-roll is brilliant - I love the colours. As for the margaritas - yum!

:D haha! thats neat-o-i like yours alot.
and the cake- oh my-
i hope the pattern was easy to follow. i had never made a case like this before it was suggested as my project contribution to the book!

What a beautiful present, a
lovely mish mash of colours. Did you get cream on your nose trying to eat that magnificent cake?

I just can't beleive the size of that cake !!! Magnifcent ... I can just taste it now. (well in my mind that is, not really as good as eating it in reality though!)

i can't decide what i want to grab first- that needle roll or a piece of the cake. both look delicious. x

Wow - that is definitely the most fabulous looking cake - deeelicious! I love you needle roll too - have yet to make anything from my well thumbed copy of the Crafter's Companion but this might just inspire me!

what a terrific account of a lovely party - i've linked back here from my flickr site too. i loved the quilting with the embroidery silks - the colours just sang out.
