And the lucky winners are.......
Mum and Dad have just left for their journey back to Preston after a birthday tea party with all the trimmings
they are chocolate coated cherries on the top layer - more of them later
and this is apricot cake from Nigel Slaters ' Appetite' with more chocolate coated fruit and eight candles and two candles and a knife that sings 'Happy Birthday' ... really.
And here is a bowl full of papers waiting for the winners to be announced
here is that very draw..... am I building up an air of anticipation here (or just annoying you all?)
and the winners are
Maddy from 'Maddy's Glasshouse' and Sarah from 'All Fingers and Thumbs'
hooray! hooray! hooray! congratulations!
well done you two! email me your postal address and I will pack up the prizes and send them on their way. Thanks to Mum and Dad for helping make this impartial draw work so well!
After all that excitement - here are the chocolate coated cherries. I made a batch to take to knitting at Anne's yesterday, took a few to share when we went to see Happy Potter last night and made even more today for Mum's birthday. This is because I enjoyed the palaver of making them so much.
I didn't want them to have flat bottoms - hence all that suspending from the cake rack with little pegs..
and I was all out of Scotblock so I had to use Green and Blacks - ah well - such a great combination - dark chocolate and cherries.
Harry Potter was wonderful - watch out for a fabulous performance from Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood
It all looks delicious, you must have had a lovely day. Love the cherries hanging to avoid flat bottoms...I wouldn't have thought of that!
Congrats to the winners.

Ooooooohhhh! Chocolate covered cherries AND Harry Potter talk - two of my favorite things! I wish I could cook...I'm afraid I'm the Queen of Oven Fires and have even managed one or two on top of the stove. Just isn't in me. But your stuff looks FABULOUS! Yummy! And I loved, loved, loved the Harry Potter, too. (I thought Luna resembled my granddaughter!)

kate, I don't know where you get the time or ideas, the cherries look great, i've done a similar thing with strawberries and they were nice, but they did have flat bottoms. need to go and buy more pegs or should I just hang them on the line with the washing!

Katie - thanks for the comment on my menopause rant! I don't know WHY I decided to go to the doctor. I usually will put off a dr. visit until I'm about one symptom away from the emergency room! I'm glad I did go this time, though. I think. I was beginning to believe I was CRAZY. I'm a little embarrassed that I'm not handling this menopause thing any better than I am, but really...I just want to get through it. Just let me get through it and THEN we'll discuss my mental health! ha,ha And I don't know if chocolate helps, but I DO know I'm not givin' it up, just in case!
