The Wonderful Knitters of Hexham..... Sew!
Today the Hexham Pod got together to make Morsbags. What a team we are! We met for breakfast and the sweatshop started shortly after. The undisputed star of the show was Catherine's overlocker, though the ironer put in some good work and the cutters, trimmers, hemmers and handle matchers. This is such a good idea. I urge you all to have a look at the web site and create your own team to make these bags. Apart for being environmentally amazing it is the most sociable thing I have done in months!
Thank you to Pauline for allowing her house to be turned into a sewing factory
here are some of the finished bags (do you recognise your fabric Mum!)
I saw this You Tube first on Melly and Me and it made me laugh.
So if you have some old duvet covers and a few friends with sewing machines JUST DO IT! We will be giving these away sometime soon at a supermarket in Hexham and have plans to make MORE..... if only for the chat and amazing pot luck lunch!
Thank you girls. (we made 47)
Great Morsbags Katie! I've joined an online group for making them. There are 35 of us and so far we've made 137 bags!

Oh, hooray!!! Would you like to trade bags? I'm making a few quilted ones as they hold up better to the weight of bottles.
I wonder if I could get a Chicago group going?

Wow! The canvas bag revolution!!! Well done ladies!!!

I was just commenting to my husband that use of my canvas bags has REALLY cut down on the palstic bags we're recycling. This is such a good idea taht I think I'll offer it as an elective at my daughters school.

thank you so much for that link. I listened to it and thought "Tim Minchin... sounds familiar" he was on a radio4 6-30 comedy slot programme a few months back.
Then I listened to him singing "Hallelujah".
Then I listened to John Cale singing it, then Leonard Cohen.
Then I listened to LC singing "So long Marianne" Then I re-found my cassette of "Songs of love and hate"
still looking for John Cale doing "The Gift" Can't remember what album it's on.
Happy memories!

Wow! Sounds like fun! I don't know enough people in my area to do that with. And even if I did, they'd probably relegate me to the ironing board since I STILL haven't figured out how to thread my sewing machine. lol

What a great idea!

I'll be doing some of those! We already use "bags for life" but we are very tired of the response to them in shops! We bought something at the weekend and when my husband produced a bag and said to the lady at the counter "it's alright, we've got our own bag", she looked at us and cruled her lip. This is, unfortunately, not the first time this has happened! They should definitely start charging 5p/bag.
