Dyed Wool Blanket
Many years ago I dyed some old wool blanket with cold water Dylon in a big old jam pan on our Rayburn. I made rag rugs with some of the pieces but mostly they went into the Circus Tent Curtains that still hang at our bedroom window.

Feels a bit weird to post about these as they have been hanging at our windows for years and I have just about stopped seeing them, as I live with them every day - but this last week I dug out a bit of pink wool blanket for this little jacket for Hester
Hester - the baby in the woods
Martha was home for a few days and made the little embellishments - I am very nervous about embroidery - not very good at it
I really like these little 'flowers' - simple and just right - and nothing like the Olympic Games Hoops Martha.
Apart from embroidery, I am very bad at button holes. This little jacket hasn't got any yet and may never have. Lara is used to this - we have settled on using a nappy pin to close the cardigans I make for her kids. I hope Louise is OK with this too!
But what would you - my world wide craft friends - do with the buttons situation here - bearing in mind I am a nervous button hole maker - poppers?

And look Matt - in John's room
Use a button at the edge and an embroidery silk thread loop, you know what I mean, with sort of button hole stitching on a loop to make it stronger. Green thread and a flower button would be cute.

Or a lady bird button would be cuter? And you could put one somewhere else on the jacket!

liking the loop idea - how about ribbon instead of thread - stronger?
thanks

The curtains are really lovely. It's nice to stop and see again afresh sometimes; I find that blogging helps me to do that a lot.
I would sew on bits of ribbon either side so you could tie it together with a bow.

I love your curtains. The button and loop idea is a good one if you don't like buttonholes or ties at the front.

The curtains are fanatastic and the jacket is so sweet...have you thought of toggles and loops?
Take care,

Buttons and loops is what I was thinking too :) Love your curtains and the little jacket is the sweetest thing, it's just beautiful.

Your curtains are beautiful, so cheerful! So are the little embroidered flowers! In place of buttons, I can think of velcro, two strings for ties, snaps or hooks.

The loop / button solution is a good one as are velcro (with a "butterfly" covering the velcro), snaps and hooks. I-cord may be fashioned into a frog closure. But my all time favorite when I don't want to bother with making a button hole - I make a belt. :-)
Love your curtains!!

Spectacular curtains Katie. They are wonderful. And such a sweet little jacket. I've had old blankets up at the playroom windows all winter because I didn't get round to putting up the new curtains. Your blanket looks so much better.

Those curtains are really something. You are so clever, and the jacket.
Isn't it amazing how blogging gives us fresh eyes to see.
