Autumn in Langley Woods

So ... a complete change from the dinosaurs, here is my walk with the dog yesterday. The light is wonderful sometimes!
Img_3364
This is a picture I take at all times of the year to record how the seasons change  - its the line of a disused railway and it is one of my favourite walks with Poppy - I can go for a short or l-o-n-g walk depending on time and mood and just keep walking along the track!
Img_3369
This is another thing I photograph often - at different times of the year and as the years go by and it falls a little bit further into decay.
Img_3373
There is a lake next to the track and here is a fallen tree reflected in the water.
I was all reflective too and remembering the Andy Goldsworthy art that I love so much, had a go at my own with the beech leaves.

They look good on the tree though - Nature knows how to arrange her leaves!

A different way home from work

Look what I saw because I took a different way home from work. The sun was low in the sky casting a surreal glow on this massive building. This crane dinosaur is destroying the old Scottish and Newcastle Brewery Building. I wonder if you get a sense of the scale of it?

Another building - a bit more intact thankfully and the reason why we won't be watching telly any time soon -the ariel has fallen off the roof! Here is Geoff evaluating the problem on Saturday. And there is my shed. I spent all day Sunday in my shed! Lovely.

Now that the hour has gone back - a strange and gloomy thing - I will only see my house in daylight on my days off work. So I'll check back here from time to time to remind myself.
Happy days everyone.

When you need shelves........

So - first the men get busy with the power tools. Then the girls get pretty with the colour coding. It wasn't like that at all - but it makes a better story!

And it's official - Martha is the best cook in the family. We read this recipe in the Weekend Guardian and ate the best version of it for tea!

Lovely weekend.

But what a shame this shop wasn't open - just my sort of place.

Nostalgia Warning

Tonight John and I cooked the evening meal. John is twenty. I can't believe I have a twenty year old son but I do - and a twenty-one year old daughter who we are going to see tomorrow and a seventeen year old lad - but tonight, it was John and his Mum. He has an iPod with speakers and I have a huge stack of vinyl that I haven't played for years. We started to play a track each and had the best time.

Here we are with old and new technology and here is how the evening unfolded

Tiny Dancer - Elton John
Valerie - Amy Winehouse
See Emily Play - Pink Floyd
Karma Police - Radiohead
Suite Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby Stills and Nash
Boy From School - Hot Chip
Let It Grow - Eric Clapton
St.Simon - Shins
Pretty Little Martha - Loudon Wainwright
Porcelain - Moby
Little Green - Joni Mitchell
Apples and Oranges - Dogs Die in Hot Cars
I Know What I Like (in your wardrobe)  - Genesis
Feel Good Inc - Gorillas
Martha My Dear - Beatles

and then the meal was ready .
What a wonderful evening!

Birthday Weekend

My ravelry invite has arrived. I am 'whatkatiedid' if anyone else is signed up too - I only have one friend - Julie - who I added without asking, so she might choose to take her knitting bag home with her? So you can be my friend too if you like. How sad am I?

Not sure if Ravelry is going to be wonderful or another way to waste spend time on the internet? Anyone out there who has been at this party longer than me and can give me a clue here?

And speaking of parties, we didn't really have a party for my Dad's birthday, but we had a lovely day.
Img_2992
Bit of a dodgy photo there - sorry Dad. But have a look at these. My Mum has been knitting hats for Innocent Smoothie Drinks ever since I first told her about them. I think she should think about stopping soon.........

Img_2971
But I don't think my Mum - or my Dad for that matter have any idea how to be less than busy. This is another work in progress in one of Mums sewing rooms - she has more than one - naturally!
Img_2980
This is a single bed quilt Mum is making. Just the last corner to hand quilt now. Look at those hands fly!
Img_2983
I love the zingy colours on the creamy white background
Img_2990
so plenty of craft things on this post and None Of Them From Me, unless you count the (rather ordinary) sponge cake! Happy Birthday Dad!

Mum's not the only one! This is a commission my Dad is working on for a neighbour who wants a Biblical Scene for a Nativity for her grandchildren. (no real hurry - she hasn't got any yet)

Another sensational day

Img_2933
I am so lucky to have such great weather on my weekend off work. Here is some more of the hawthorn hedge that is getting the chop.  this picture certainly doesn't reflect the scratchy pig of a job this is turning into - I do the odd hour now and then and have a huge stack of trimmings to burn.
Img_2955
A walk with Poppy
Img_2935
and tonight we are having tea with Tim and Linda - so I have picked these and will find some apples and make one of these (not the mitten - the pie)
Img_2939
I'll stick a picture here if it turn out well.(it turned out really well - we ate it before I got a chance to photograph it - I'll just have to make another!)
Enjoy your sunny Saturday if you're having one!
